We have grown up on stories of princesses with long, thick, lustrous hair. No one, ever, wrote about a princess with thin hair. But when it comes to the world outside of fairy tales, finding people with thin hair is not uncommon. Caused by a number of factors that include heredity to negligence, there is little one can do about thin hair, except for taking care of it.
Let’s take a look at some quick tips that will help you take care of thin, textured hair and look no less than a princess with beautiful tresses.
Tip 1 Learn the cause(s) of losing hair:
We lose about 50-100 strands of hair on a daily basis. But when the numbers exceed this threshold, it becomes a matter of concern. This is when you need to analyze the reasons behind the hair loss and take remedial steps. For instance, if you have recently started losing hair, then you can opt for an over-the-counter product for hair regrowth. It will help you restore your crowning glory and prevent future hair loss, provided that you use it regularly.
Tip 2 Know your hair type:
Did you know that textured hair can be divided into several categories? If not, then now is the time to get a low-down on your hair type. This will get you started.
Tip 3 Be extra careful with damp hair:
Damp hair is delicate and prone to breakage. This is why you should be more careful when you handle damp hair. For instance, pat dry your hair with the towel instead of rubbing it. Also, using a t-shirt instead of a towel to dry your hair is always the better option as it absorbs all the excess moisture and helps prevent frizz.
Another way to avoid frizz is to detangle your curls when they are still damp. But make sure that you use a detangling comb for this instead of a brush or a fine-toothed comb. You can also use your fingers for the same. These steps will help you prevent hair fall as well.
Tip 4 Go easy on products:
Textured hair tends to become rough and dry too soon. This is where several products meant for textured hair come to your rescue. But slather more products than needed, and you’ll end up with product buildup on your hair and scalp. This will make your hair appear thinner and flat. Therefore, go easy on any hair care products such as hair styling mousse, oil or conditioners.
Tip 5 Over-styling is a strict no:
Using hot tools like blow dryers and straightening wands to style your hair can prove to be detrimental for your hair. They add to the hair frizz and make them appear more dry and rough. Ditch styling tools completely and opt for styling your hair sans the tools. You’ll be surprised at the many ways you can style your hair without damaging them!

Tip 6 Get a scalp massage:
Amp up blood circulation on your scalp with a gentle hot oil massage. This will nourish the hair follicles and contribute to healthy hair growth. Take any hair oil of your choice, warm it up a bit and gently massage it on the scalp with your fingertips before rinsing it off with a mild shampoo. Follow this regimen once or twice a week for best results.
Tip 7 Trust your stylist:
One of the best ways to make your hair appear voluminous is to find a good stylist near you. If you already know a stylist, trust him or her to do the job as they already know your hair type by now. All you need to do is tell them what do you want in terms of the haircut, color and let them do the rest. Half of your hair woes will be solved with a good haircut or hair style!
Tip 8 Eat healthy:
When it comes to taking good care of your hair or any part of your body for that matter, nothing can beat a balanced diet! Take your pick from iron-rich, protein-rich and vitamins-rich food items that encourage healthy hair growth. The best part is that apart from helping you get lustrous locks, the healthy diet will also keep other diseases at bay.
Tip 9 Ditch tight hairstyles:
Tight hairstyles like cornrows, braids, ponytails, hair buns can damage your hair by pulling it at the shafts. They also contribute to hair thinning and hair loss. The same thing applies to accessories like hair pins, barrettes, ties, hair bands etc. as these pull your hair and may cause irreversible damage.
Make it a rule of the thumb to steer clear of tight hairstyles and keep changing the hair part to keep it from thinning further.
These are some of the quick tips that you can use for managing thin, textured hair. Follow these tips and you’ll definitely experience a positive change in your hair in no time.
